What Is Super Sub Betting?

Choose a football player market that displays the bookmaker’s substitute-protection label. If the named player is taken off, check which replacement is recorded on your bet slip. That replacement can help fulfil the eligible selection during the period covered by the rules.

This does not cover every bet on the match. An ordinary match-result bet does not become a player bet, and a player market without the feature label should not be treated as protected. Country, competition, market and bet type can all affect eligibility.

Imagine a £5 bet at decimal odds of 3.00 on Player A to score, with substitute protection confirmed. Player A comes off without scoring after 60 minutes. Player B is recorded as the replacement and scores after 78 minutes. If those events satisfy the operator’s terms, the selection wins: £15 total return, including the £5 stake, where the original odds carry over.

If neither player scores within the covered period, the selection loses. The feature extends the chance to meet the original condition; it does not provide a refund or guarantee a winning bet. These players and prices are illustrative, not a current tip or offer.

Read the accumulation rule for the exact market. For example, William Hill’s Impact Sub help page says progress already made on a qualifying multi-event selection carries over. On an eligible two-goal selection, one goal by the original player plus one by the replacement can satisfy the target.

Do not apply that example automatically to every bookmaker or to a different market such as first goalscorer. The selection’s wording and whether its result was already decided matter.

There is no universal rule. Paddy Power’s Super Sub help page includes eligible pre-match and in-play singles, multiples and Bet Builder bets, but excludes extra time. William Hill’s Impact Sub help page also limits play to 90 minutes plus stoppage time.

The bet365 UK help page describes selected pre-match markets and Bet Builders. It allows extra time where the player market is explicitly labelled to include it; penalty shootouts are excluded. An extra-time statement from one operator must not be applied to another.

The recorded replacement matters more than the player’s position. If two players leave together, do not assume the incoming forward replaces your forward. Paddy Power uses Opta to identify the replacement; bet365’s help page describes an ordering determined by Podium. Follow the updated bet slip and the operator’s settlement rules.

A dismissal is different from a substitution. William Hill states that Impact Sub cannot continue a selection when a sent-off or injured player leaves without a replacement. A player who never starts or never enters the match also needs the separate non-starter rules; substitute protection alone does not establish how that bet settles.

Confirm your country’s site supports the feature, then check the competition, exact player market, feature icon and pre-match or live eligibility. Read the rules for combined bets, already-settled outcomes, cash out and the covered playing period.

Keep the bet receipt and the version of the terms that applied when you placed it. If settlement looks wrong, give the bookmaker the bet reference, the substitution and the relevant rule. A feature name on a guide cannot override the terms of your individual selection.
