Rules differ between bookmakers, so check the label on the market and the current terms before staking.
What to know about Sub Switch
Feature name: Sub Switch.
Sub Switch is Betfred's name for Super Sub. If your player is substituted at any point in the match, your selection switches to the player who comes on. It works on player markets marked with the Sub Switch icon.
- Look for the Sub Switch icon, or (Sub Switch) after the market name. Only those markets are covered.
- If your player is substituted, your selection switches to the player who replaces him.
- Your player's stats and his replacement's are added together: if your player had one shot on target before going off, the replacement only needs one more for a 2+ bet.
- When Betfred launched Sub Switch for the 2026 World Cup it applied to single bets and pre-match Bet Builders on qualifying player selections. In-play bets did not qualify.
- Bets are settled with official Opta data.

Limits and exclusions
- Markets without Sub Switch. On 16 September 2026 these had no Sub Switch label: Goalscorers, Multi Scorers, Player Fouls Won, goalkeeper saves, Player Offsides and Player To Score And Assist.
- Penalty shootouts.
- Void bets.
- World Cup terms: in-play bets didn't qualify. Sub Switch applied in extra time, but a bet with a non-Sub Switch selection that had already lost in the 90 minutes didn't continue into extra time.
- Betfred's published terms are for the World Cup. Betfred hasn't published separate Sub Switch terms for club football, so check the bet slip for the current rules.

- Does the exact player selection carry a substitute-protection label? A standard goalscorer bet may not qualify.
- Do the original player's and replacement's statistics both count? Is a replacement who is substituted again covered?

- Which markets have Sub Switch?
- We've seen it on to score, score or assist, assists, shots, shots on target, fouls, to be carded and to be sent off.
- Do the alternatives follow the same rules as Sub Switch?
- Not necessarily. A similar feature name does not prove the same coverage. Compare the player market, treatment of substitutes, playing periods and exclusions before placing a bet.
